13 Years Later, M. Night Shyamalan’s Sci-Fi Bomb Is Officially Free To Stream

Some movies are based on video games, while others are designed to replicate the experience of playing video games. There are, of course, certain overlaps. Zach Cregger‘s recent Resident Evil reboot is both a video game adaptation and a great example of mimicking the thrill of playing one. Largely speaking, however, video game adaptations tend to favor replicating lore over experience. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, HBO’s The Last of Us, and even the original Resident Evil films have nothing to do with actually playing the games. However, movies like Edge of Tomorrow and Source Code capture the trial-and-error format of gaming through intricate time-loop narratives on screen. There was another movie made during the same time that captured the mission-oriented structure of video games, but it failed miserably on virtually every front.
