This policy sets out how News DIO decides what to publish and how we get it right. It applies to staff, freelance contributors and anyone else whose work appears here.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made by editors. No advertiser, sponsor, investor or commercial partner has any say in what we cover or how we cover it, and none receives advance sight of a story before publication.
Sourcing
We prefer primary sources: filings, transcripts, datasets, documents and first-hand accounts. Where we rely on another outlet’s reporting, we say so and link to it.
Anonymous sourcing is used only where the information is in the public interest and the source faces a real risk from being named. Where we grant anonymity we explain to readers why, and we describe the source as precisely as safety allows.
Verification
Factual claims are checked before publication against the primary source. Our fact-checking policy sets out the detail.
Right of reply
Anyone criticised in a story is given a fair opportunity to respond before publication, and their response is reflected in the piece. Where someone declines to comment, we say that too.
Editing
Every article is read by an editor other than its author before publication. Headlines are written to describe the story accurately, not to overstate it.
News, analysis and opinion
We label these clearly. News reports what happened. Analysis explains what it means and is written by a reporter who covers the subject. Opinion argues a position and carries the author’s name, and represents their view rather than ours.
Use of AI
[State your position plainly. A common one:] We do not publish articles generated by an AI system. AI tools may be used for research, transcription or suggesting headlines, and everything published is written, checked and signed by a named journalist who is accountable for it.
Updates and corrections
Developing stories are updated and the update is dated. Errors are corrected openly under our corrections policy.
