Netflix’s New Sci-Fi Epic Officially Passes 1.5 Billion Minutes Watched

Netflix has successfully pivoted to mid-budget genre movies this year, after spending several years and billions of dollars on mega-budget tentpoles that rarely received positive reviews. Not every new movie has been well received, but several have done tremendously well for the streamer. This year alone, mid-budget hits such as The Rip, Apex, Thrash, and Swapped, among others, have surpassed the coveted 100 million-view mark. The sci-fi thriller War Machine, starring Alan Ritchson, emerged as one of the streamer’s 10 most-watched movies of all time. Now, another recent genre film is closing in on the milestone with around 80 million views in five weeks.
