Mike Flanagan Confirms a Major Creative Change for Prime Video’s ‘Carrie’

Every adaptation of Carrie eventually reaches the blood-soaked prom that has defined Stephen King’s first published novel for more than 50 years. Getting there, however, requires the filmmakers to understand the teenage girl standing at the center of that horror. For his new Prime Video series, Mike Flanagan wanted women involved in shaping Carrie White’s story from the writers’ room through production. Flanagan serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer on the eight-episode adaptation, in addition to directing half of the season. Kate Siegel, Axelle Carolyn, Kyra Sedgwick, and Hiromi Kamata each directed one of the remaining episodes. The result is an entirely female roster of directors outside Flanagan himself.
