When it comes to WWII projects, few names have done as much for the genre as Tom Hanks, and one of his most iconic gifts to the genre is finding a second wind years after it was initially released. Hanks is best known for his Oscar-nominated role in Saving Private Ryan, which is held in high-regard as one of the best movies of all time — Hanks’ performance in the film is still viewed as one of the most egregious Oscar snubs ever. More recently, Hanks starred in one of the best straight-to-streaming WWII movies on Apple TV with Greyhound, which has been in the top 10 in at least a few countries for well over 1,000 days. Hanks is due to star in a sequel to the film, which is expected to be released sometime next year.
