Gerard Butler’s Sleeper Action Hit Officially Becomes a Streaming Smash

Gerard Butler didn’t exactly come out of the gates hot this year with Greenland 2: Migration, which is a sequel to his mostly well-liked 2020 film, Greenland. Lionsgate invested almost $100 million into the making of the film, which turned out to be a bad investment when the film couldn’t even scrape together $50 million during its entire run at the box office. Butler then took his talents to Netflix for the 700-year-spanning crime thriller, In the Hand of Dante, which arrived on streaming earlier in the summer as a more quiet debut — it spent a few weeks in the top 10 before giving up its spot to newer arrivals. Butler is eyeing a return to box office glory next summer, though, with the release of the live-action How to Train Your Dragon sequel, which arrives in June 2027.
