2026’s Biggest Sci-Fi Disappointment Officially Finds a New Hope on Streaming

2026 has been a great year for sci-fi, with the likes of Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott releasing new entries into the genre. The highlight so far has been the Phil Lord and Christopher Miller-directed masterpiece Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, which beautifully adapts the 2021 novel by Andy Weir. Project Hail Marywas a huge hit with critics, including Collider’s Ross Bonaime, who dubbed it “the first great film of 2026” in his 9/10 review, and is an early favorite to take home Oscars in early 2027.
