CBS has its long-running flagship 48 Hours, while NBC has the ever-enduring Dateline as an extension of its news programming. The oldest and most enduring of them all, however, is ABC’s newsmagazine 20/20. Premiering in 1978, the series remains one of the most popular sources of true-crime content, interviews, and more out there, outperforming the competition to become the most-watched newsmagazine in the Friday time slot during the 2025-2026 broadcast season and leading Dateline for the fourth straight year with over 3.7 million viewers tuning in.
