One of the 21st Century’s Most Stunning Sci-Fi Movies Is Officially Streaming for Free

It has been a solid summer for original sci-fi, although no movie has truly broken out at the box office. Steven Spielberg returned to the genre after nearly a decade withDisclosure Day, which grossed $241 million worldwide, while Ridley Scott‘s first sci-fi movie since 2017, The Dog Stars, has barely recouped half of its reported $70 million budget. J.J. Abrams returned to the genre as well, albeit as a producer. His new movie, The End of Oak Street, directed by David Robert Mitchell, has made around $115 million globally against a reported budget of $80 million. Spielberg, Scott, and Abrams, each of whom was at the front and center of the marketing for their respective films, are all synonymous with sci-fi. But the theatrical landscape isn’t what it used to be even as recently as the 2000s and the 2010s, when a bold original genre movie could come along and shatter box-office expectations. One such movie is streaming for free in the United States, as rumors of a sequel continue to swirl.
