Netflix’s 8-Part Gothic Horror Is Near Perfect When It Goes Beyond the Book It’s Based On

There are way more adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe‘s work in visual media than most people can count. If well-made, they are pretty much guaranteed to draw interest, because the source material is just that good. What’s rare is to see one of them that actually wishes to be more than an adaptation, and that’s what Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher is all about. Created by modern horror master Mike Flanagan, this miniseries doesn’t stick solely to the short story of the same name, but is an homage to the whole of Poe’s work. When it was first announced, horror fans knew they were in for a treat, as the idea of Flanagan adapting Poe is a no-brainer; what no one expected was how Flanagan would do it.
