Netflix has produced its fair share of major success stories with its original films in 2026. Two new titles on the platform’s global top ten in all-time viewership — the Alan Ritchson-led sci-fi actioner War Machine and Michael B. Jordan-starring animated comedy Swapped — were released this year, earning solid reviews from critics and audiences alike en route to shaking up the charts. Outside of them, the year kicked off with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck‘s latest team-up, The Rip, launching to 41.6 million views in three days, becoming the biggest launch for the streamer since Happy Gilmore 2. Yet, the latest film to capture the attention of subscribers has a fraction of the budget and advertising of its predecessors and brings more low-key, grounded action based on true events.
