MU Stock Gets Musk’s Praise as 26 Deals Buffer Memory Cycle Risks
Micron stock received a public endorsement from Elon Musk, who praised the company's reasonable future memory pricing amid volatile industry cycles and long-term customer contracts.
On October 13, 2026, MU stock received a public endorsement from Elon Musk after the SpaceX and Tesla CEO remarked that Micron has maintained reasonable future memory pricing, in contrast to rival vendors. This statement comes as Micron memory pricing hovers near record highs, alongside the company’s 26 long-term customer contracts extending through at least 2030, which currently account for more than 35% of its revenue. This financial cushion also influences the MU stock outlook, as it has the potential to soften the blow during the next downturn of the Micron memory cycle.

MU Stock, Elon Musk’s Praise, and Micron’s Memory Price Risks
Following Elon Musk’s endorsement, MU stock experienced a brief 0.7% lift during overnight trading on Tuesday. However, the gains failed to stick. Micron closed down 4.08% at $914.13 on October 14 and dipped further to $875.15 in overnight sessions. At the time of this writing, the equities are down nearly 16% across five sessions amid a broader chip sector sell-off, though they remain up roughly 220% for the year.
What Elon Musk Said About Micron
Musk took to X to respond to Nicholas Mugalli, an institutional TMT research analyst who highlighted a bullish note on memory from JPMorgan. Here is what Elon Musk stated:
“Micron has been reasonable regarding future memory prices, while others have been extortionate, which is something today’s customers won’t forget. Micron is making is the smart move for long-term customer loyalty.”
These remarks hold significance for MU stock because Elon Musk operates as a massive buyer of memory hardware. His xAI venture—now integrated with SpaceXAI—operates the Colossus AI data-center complex located near Memphis, which utilizes Nvidia GPUs outfitted with Micron memory. Additionally, Musk identified Micron as a current supplier back in April when discussing his Terafab initiative.
How Micron’s Customer Contracts Change The Memory Cycle
The customer agreements provide Micron with a level of defense against the traditional Micron memory cycle that it has never possessed previously. Three-quarters of the forecasted revenue from these arrangements features price bands establishing explicit maximums and minimums, while the remaining portion is negotiated according to prevailing market rates. Clients have also put forward $32 billion, largely delivered as cash deposits. Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra noted:
“To date, we have signed 26 SCAs, which we currently estimate to be over 35% of our revenue through 2030.”
Mugalli points out that Micron also maintains a contracted backlog valued at $150 billion, with greater than 75% of its anticipated fiscal 2027 production already pre-sold. This substantial backlog helps explain why buyers are eagerly queuing up for the supply associated with the MU stock singled out by Elon Musk.
What The MU Stock Forecast Depends On
The cyclical nature of the memory market has not disappeared. Bernstein projects that DRAM pricing will advance another 43% throughout 2027 before declining by 53% in 2028, whereas JPMorgan anticipates supply deficits persisting through 2028. Mehrotra observed:
“We expect memory and storage supply-demand conditions to be much tighter in calendar 2027 and 2028 than they were in 2026.”
Micron memory prices drove the vast majority of financial performance this year, with average DRAM selling prices climbing roughly 180% in fiscal 2026 while shipment volumes grew by only the mid-20% range. Revenue surged 256% to reach approximately $133 billion, yet the equity trades at roughly 13 times earnings, reflecting investor expectations that earnings will eventually moderate once pricing softens. Furthermore, Chinese competitor CXMT introduces additional pressure via denser DRAM architectures.
While corporate contracts and Elon Musk’s public backing provide support for the MU stock forecast, approximately 74% of Micron’s total sales remain highly sensitive to shifts in supply and demand. Consequently, MU stock will face its true examination when Micron memory prices eventually trend downward.
