JPMorgan Plans JPM Coin Expansion to Ethereum for Institutions
JPMorgan is expanding its dollar-deposit token, JPM Coin, to the Ethereum blockchain for vetted institutional clients, providing a public settlement layer for round-the-clock financial transactions and trade settlement.
JPMorgan is expanding JPM Coin to the Ethereum blockchain, making its dollar-deposit token accessible to vetted institutional clients and moving the offering beyond Base. Word of JPM Coin coming to Ethereum emerged on October 19, though a specific launch date has not yet been announced.
This move gives JPMorgan a public settlement layer for institutional financial transactions, though access remains strictly controlled by the bank. Because JPM Coin represents a claim on fiat dollars held directly with JPMorgan, it functions as a deposit token rather than a retail stablecoin, meaning everyday Ethereum users will not have access to it.
$7 Billion a Day: The Existing Business Behind JPMorgan’s JPM Coin Ethereum Move
According to CoinDesk, JPMorgan’s proprietary Kinexys network already processes upwards of $7 billion daily. That figure reflects Kinexys volume and does not include JPM Coin activity on Ethereum, which has not yet commenced.
24-Hour Transfers, but Only for Approved Institutions
As noted by Cointelegraph, qualified clients will be able to transfer JPM Coin around the clock within seconds. Emma Landriault, global head of Kinexys Labs, explained that cryptocurrency firms could leverage the token for blockchain-based payments, while traditional financial institutions could utilize it for trade settlement and collateral posting.
For trading desks, this means digital dollar value can now be transferred simultaneously with tokenized assets, bypassing traditional banking hours entirely.
November 2025: Base Came Before the Ethereum Expansion
JPMorgan initially launched JPM Coin on Base in November 2025. At that time, the bank indicated that further public blockchain integrations were in the pipeline, positioning the Ethereum rollout as the next phase of a pre-announced roadmap.
Another integration was announced in January, when JPMorgan revealed plans to bring JPM Coin to the Canton Network. However, that deployment remains in the planning phase, with neither CoinDesk nor Cointelegraph reporting it as a finished launch.
Why JPMorgan Picked Ethereum
Landriault cited liquidity and the existing presence of institutional clients on the network as the primary reasons for choosing Ethereum, sharing her insights with Bloomberg while omitting any target rollout date.
