Polymarket has initiated testing for Protocol V2, with the rollout for new markets scheduled for as early as November 2. According to protocol lead Rajath Alex, canary markets will remain active through October 30.
Current applications will not undergo an automatic migration to the new release. Production canaries are designed to help assess the V2 protocol, while legacy Gnosis Conditional Tokens Framework-based jobs will maintain ongoing support. Consequently, maintaining integrations for both the older and newer versions will be necessary.
Polymarket V2 Rebuilds Positions Around ERC-1155 and pUSD
The Protocol V2 upgrade strips away the interface and adapter layers originally introduced in the 2019 CTF implementation. Polymarket notes that Protocol V2 functions as a single smart contract delivering ERC-1155 wager assets, trade execution capabilities, and cross-chain interoperability features.
Under the V2 framework, position addresses embed details regarding the token, its price, and the specific position directly within the token ID. Additional operations are handled via a shared PositionManager and Router, while separate modules manage binary, atomic negative-exposure, incremental negative-exposure, and various other market mechanics.

This upgrade is distinct from the CLOB V2 release, focusing instead on redesigning the underlying infrastructure through which users establish and administer market positions.
pUSD serves as a unified collateral asset across various V2 markets. This ERC-20 token pegs 1:1 to USDC and USDC.e within an external vault, backed by reserves that match or exceed the total circulating supply of pUSD. All V2 market formats utilize this identical asset.

Because CTF allowances do not transfer over to the PositionManager, developers must implement new approval steps. While generating and redeeming split or combined V2 positions requires utilizing the Router, pre-existing CTF positions remain unaffected.
Modular Oracles Expand How Polymarket Markets Can Resolve
Market resolution has been updated to rely on an OracleAggregator contract incorporating multiple reporting and appeal systems. The deployed contracts feature supplementary modules for UMA’s Optimistic Oracle, Chainlink, and externally owned account (EOA) reporting, enabling resolution through a variety of methods.
Utilizing a cross-chain architecture, the platform currently incorporates Chainlink CCIP for transport operations. Polygon serves as the primary chain for resolution services, and Polymarket has not yet announced a target launch date for additional networks.

Data API users are subject to a different migration schedule. Version 1 will sunset on October 24, requiring developers to update their integrations to support V2 routes, responses, and cursor-based pagination.

End users are not required to perform any technical procedures, though they may encounter new approval prompts when engaging with V2 markets. Protocol developers, however, must take specific actions to manage both new and legacy CTF positions. Assuming current projections hold, canary testing will wrap up on October 30, with the transition of existing markets to Protocol V2 kicking off on November 2.
